Privacy policy
Orphie keeps your mileage log on your phone. There's no Orphie account and no Orphie server, so we never receive your log. This policy explains what stays on your phone, what goes to Apple or Google, and what you choose to share.
Effective October 5, 2026
The short version
- Your log stays on your phone. We never receive it.
- Orphie has no account or sign-in. It doesn't ask for your gig-app logins or connect to those apps.
- Orphie has no analytics, no ads, and no tracking. We don't sell or share your personal information.
- Maps, the optional city names, and the optional Google Drive copy use services from Apple or Google.
- You decide when to share your records, and where they go.
Who we are
Cobalt Reef LLC publishes the Orphie app and runs orphie.app. In this policy, "we" means Cobalt Reef LLC.
This policy covers the Orphie app on iPhone, iPad, and Android, and this website.
What stays on your phone
Orphie keeps your log in a database on your phone. The log holds:
- your shifts: the date, start and end times, business miles, route, stops, who you drove for, and vehicle
- the business purposes and notes you write, and the history of your corrections
- your vehicles, their placed-in-service dates, and your odometer readings
- your settings, such as language, region, and theme
We can't see any of it. Orphie has no server to send it to.
When Orphie uses your location
Orphie uses your phone's GPS to log miles during a shift. Location starts when you tap Start shift. Pause turns it off, and Orphie records nothing while a shift is paused.
If you tap End shift while driving, location can stay on for up to 10 minutes, or until you've been parked for 2 minutes, in case you resume. Save shift turns it off. If you end from Pause, location stays off.
On iPhone, iPad, and Android, Orphie asks for location access only while you use the app.
On Android, Orphie also asks to show notifications. It uses them for the notification you see while a shift is logging, with Pause and End buttons.
Your route stays on your phone with the shift.
What goes to Apple or Google
Some features use services from Apple on iPhone and iPad, or Google on Android. Those services receive what they need to work, under Apple's privacy policy or Google's privacy policy.
- Maps. Apple Maps on iPhone and iPad, and Google Maps on Android, draw the route map. The map service supplies the map for the area on screen.
- City names. "City names in business purpose" is off until you turn it on in Settings. When it's on, Orphie sends a shift's start and end location to Apple or Google once after you end the shift, and gets back city and state names for the business purpose. It doesn't send the rest of the route or your stops.
- Location. Your phone's location services find your position. Your phone's own location settings, and Apple's or Google's policies, apply to them.
- Purchases. Orphie includes the App Store or Google Play purchase code, which contacts the store when Orphie opens. Orphie offers nothing for sale, so there are no purchases for us to receive.
Backups you control
Settings › Backup and restore › Back up now saves one backup file of your whole log. Your phone's file picker opens, and you choose where the file goes, such as the phone, iCloud Drive, or Google Drive. Keep the file somewhere private.
Your phone's own backup can also include Orphie's data: iCloud Backup on iPhone and iPad, or your phone's backup to Google on Android, when you have it turned on. Apple or Google runs that backup, not Orphie.
Automatic copy to Google Drive (Android)
On Android, you can turn on "Back up to Google Drive automatically" during setup or in Settings › Backup and restore. It's off until you turn it on.
When you turn it on, Google asks you to give Orphie one permission, called drive.appdata. It lets Orphie create, read, and delete its own files in a hidden app folder in your Google Drive. Orphie can't see your other Drive files. Orphie asks Google for no other permission.
About once a day, on Wi-Fi or another network that doesn't charge by data use, Orphie uploads a copy of your backup file to that folder. Orphie labels each copy with its date, the number of shifts, and your phone's model name, so "Restore from Google Drive" can list your copies. After a new copy checks out, Orphie deletes that phone's older copy.
The copy goes from your phone straight to your Google account. We never receive it. Orphie uses this access only to save your copies and restore your log from them. Orphie doesn't use your Google data for ads, doesn't sell it, and doesn't transfer it to anyone.
Orphie's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Turning the setting off stops new copies. The copies already in your Drive stay there. To delete them, open Google Drive on the web, go to Settings › Manage apps, find Orphie, and choose Delete hidden app data. To remove Orphie's access, go to your Google Account's third-party connections.
What you share
Taxes › Export PDF and Export CSV each make one file of a year's records. Settings › Export all data makes a ZIP of all your records. Your phone's share sheet opens, and you choose where the files go, such as email, a messaging app, or a cloud drive.
After that, the service you chose handles the files under its own terms. Your exports and backup files hold your records, and backup files also hold your routes, so share them only with people you trust, such as your tax professional.
What we don't do
- Orphie has no analytics or crash-reporting code, and it shows no ads.
- We don't track you across other companies' apps or websites.
- We don't sell or share your personal information, and we don't buy data about you.
- We don't ask for your gig-app logins, and Orphie doesn't connect to those apps.
If you allow it in your phone's settings, Apple or Google may send us crash and performance reports about the app. They don't include your log.
This website
orphie.app has no analytics, ads, or cookies. Cloudflare hosts the site and handles each request for a page, under Cloudflare's privacy policy. Fonts are served from this website, so loading them does not send a request to Google.
The help pages remember your light or dark theme choice in your browser's storage. That choice stays in your browser.
The mileage tools on this site run in your browser. They don't send what you type to us.
Children
Orphie is for adults who drive for work. It isn't directed to children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
Deleting your data
To delete one shift, open it in the Log and delete it.
To delete everything, open Settings › Delete all data and confirm twice. Orphie removes every shift, route, correction, vehicle, odometer reading, Driving for entry, and setting on the phone, and turns off the automatic Google Drive copy. Deleting the Orphie app also removes its data from the phone.
Backup files you saved, and copies in your Google Drive, stay where they are until you delete them. The Google Drive section above explains how to delete those copies.
We hold none of your app data, so we have nothing to delete on our side. If you emailed us, ask us and we'll delete your messages.
Your privacy rights
Privacy laws in some places, such as California, give you the right to see, correct, or delete the personal information a company holds about you. We hold no app data about you, so you control it on your phone. For anything you sent us by email, contact us and we'll answer your request.
Your rights in the EU, the UK, and elsewhere
Laws such as the GDPR in the European Union and the European Economic Area, and the UK GDPR in the United Kingdom, give you rights over your personal data. Other places have similar laws.
Orphie has no account and no server, and we receive no data from the app. The only personal data we hold about you is the email you send us. Cobalt Reef LLC is responsible for that data (the data controller). We use it only to answer you, and we handle it in the United States.
You have the right to:
- see the personal data we hold about you and get a copy
- correct it if it's wrong
- delete it
- object to how we use it
- ask us to limit how we use it
- get it in a common format to move to another service
- withdraw any consent you gave us, at any time
To use these rights, email [email protected]. Your log is on your phone, so you can see, change, export, or delete it there yourself.
You can also complain to the data protection authority where you live.
Security
Your log is protected by your phone's own security, so use a passcode. Orphie adds no encryption of its own to backup files or the Google Drive copy. Anyone who can open a backup file can read it, and anyone who can sign in to your Google account can download the Drive copy.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address and your message. We use them only to answer you, and we keep them only as long as we need them to help you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll post the new version on this page with a new effective date. If a change affects what Orphie does with your data, we'll also describe it in the changelog.
